Whatever Your Standard, Whatever Your Golf Requirement, Stonelees Has Something for You to Enjoy

Stonelees Golf Centre is the golf centre where enjoying the game is more important than anything else.

Located just off the A256 near Ramsgate, Kent, Stonelees Golf Centre has something for every golfer to enjoy.

The Beginner. Take your first lessons from one of our PGA Professionals then take your game to the Par 3, nine hole course where the holes range from 101 to 165 yards.  This course is also great for those who want to practice their short game.

The "Average" or Improving Golfer. You'll enjoy the Par 3 course for a quick game and you may also enjoy the challenge of our full-length course but the course you'll like the most is our nine hole Executive Course.

And if you're keen to improve significantly, lessons are affordable and the practice facilities include a floodlit range, a putting green, and short game practice area.

The More Experienced.  Are you a low handicapper, or looking for more of a challenge?  Then you'll enjoy the experience of the nine hole Heights Course.  If you're one of these poeple then head for this full-length nine hole course.

The Local Resident. Whatever your standard, a membership will provide you with an affordable place to play and you'll soon find it easy to get a game with someone of your standard and ability. It's a wonderful way to meet people and make new friends.

The Junior. If there's a young golfer in your life and you want him or her to learn to enjoy the game while developing sound basics plus an appreciation for all that's good about the game, bring them to Stonelees where we have special programmes just for the younger golfers.

The Golf Addict. If it's raining cats and dogs and you don't want to play outside, you can hit balls on the covered and floodlit range or head inside and play on the ultra-realistic golf simulator.

The Society Secretary. Are you looking for a golf course that genuinely welcomes societies? Look no further than Stonelees where we have the facilities, and most importantly, the right approach. You can hold your society day on the full-length course but why not have a friendly side-tournament on the Par 3 or Executive course? We also offer a fully-licensed bar and a full menu.

The Company Day or Charity Event Organiser. One of the benefits of having three courses for players of different abilities is that we can host any company day or any charity event: everyone will feel at ease, even if your group includes total beginners.

The Nature Lover. If the walk and the environment is just as important as the golf, you'll see foxes, hares, water voles, weasels, stoats, plus our resident swans.

So, wherever you are in the golf universe, Stonelees has something for you. Whatever your need.

Social Responsibility at Stonelees

Stonelees Golf Centre has been open since 1994 and has maintained its commitment to providing golf for everyone regardless of age, ability, or income.

Stonelees aims to take the exclusivity out of golf, with a relaxed dress code, reasonable prices, and graded courses.

Golf is a very important sport for all ages. It teaches children to respect rules, it teaches etiquette and it enables the elderly to remain active and social. Stonelees Golf Centre actively encourages school groups from the surrounding area to come and use the facilities. It provides equipment and offers special discounts so that all children can become involved in this great game.

There is a junior section as part of the Stonelees Golf Member's Club which offers under 16s group lessons and competitions. This encourages those who enjoy golf to take their game further and compete and gain a handicap. It also encourages team spirit and social skills along with respect for etiquette and rules which will impact on their lives in general. Stonelees is dedicated to providing a constructive practice to those coming for work experience. It provides a valuable insight to the working world with candidates experiencing working both outside on the course itself and inside face to face with customers. It gives candidates a good all round experience of both a labour based and service based industry.

Stonelees supports many charities.  The charity which Stonelees Golf Centre is most involved with is Demelza House, a local children's hospice. It has collection pots throughout the year and every summer, Stonelees has a day dedicated to raising money for this chosen charity. The head professional, David Bonthron organises this and there is huge involvement from the members who help to run various competitions and raffles. Now in its 12th year, the amount raised increases every year.

A Commitment to the Environment

Stonelees supports the environment in many ways, the biggest of which is by way of providing a nature reserve for all sorts of wildlife. It preserves green space and provides both wooded, open and water habitats.  A wide variety of wildlife have chosen to make Stonelees their home due to our endeavours. Stonelees is proud to have been part of the water vole reintroduction scheme whereby water voles were taken from the courses to repopulate other areas of the country. A butterfly survey conducted in late summer identified 14 species present at Stonelees and it is believed that a more lengthy survey would add further varieties to this list.

Major tree planting and water features have led to sightings of a vast array of birds, some of which are rarely spotted in Thanet. The list includes the Short Eared Owl, Peregrine Falcons, a European Crane and many other coastal birds.

One year Stonelees had the great pleasure of witnessing a Heron successfully raise three chicks. Stonelees is committed to recycling and saving energy wherever it can. As part of the waste management scheme as much as possible is recycled.  All hedge and tree trimmings are put through the wood chipper and are reused on and around the course.

All light bulbs in the clubhouse are energy saving and there is a policy of turning off all machines which can be turned off without jeopardizing the running of the building after closing.

Future Goals for Added Sustainability

Stonelees realises that though it is proud of everything it currently does for the community and the environment, there is always more which can be done which is why it still has future goals. These include, increasing the number of young players who use the facilities, either through its current involvement with schools and youth groups or encouraging individuals.  We aim to add to the amount raised for Demelza House, and increase the amount and type of recycling while decreasing water wastage and encouraging even more wildlife to make Stonelees their home.
